Berger selected in the academic team of all CoSIDA districts

KANSAS CITY, Missouri ( – University of Eastern Michigan Diver Bethany Shepherd (Batavia, Ohio-Glen Este) has been named the academic selection of all districts, the Directors of University Sports Information of America (CoSIDA) announced on July 8.

Berger is only the fifth Eagle in the history of the program to win academic honors from all districts. Previously, Sarah Chrzanowski was honored in 2006 and 2007, Madeleine Pilchard received the distinction in 2006 and 2007, Briana emig won the honor in 2013, and Delaney Duncan received the distinction in 2018.

Berger has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.99 in his field of exercise science throughout his distinguished career.

Finishing her season at the Mid-American Conference Championships, April 15-17, Berger swept the diving events in the competition, being crowned MAC 1-meter champion with a total of 303.90 and MAC 3-meter champion. with a career-best point total of 329.70.

The Batavia, Ohio native was also named MAC Diver of the Year at the end of the competition and was also selected to the All-MAC First Team. The senior had previously been named MAC Diver of the Week three times in 2021 and competed in the NCAA National Swimming and Diving Championships in March.

The 2020-2021 Academic All-District® Women’s At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes recipients in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The winners of the first Academic All-District® team advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. The winners of the first, second and third Academic All-America® teams will be announced in early August.
