COLOMBIA, South Carolina – Head Coach of Swimming and Diving in South Carolina Jeff Poppell announced the addition of Andy Eaton as a volunteer assistant coach on Monday afternoon.

Eaton recently completed two years as an assistant coach at Franklin & Marshall College. During his tenure, F&M enjoyed two of their best seasons in team history, with the men winning the conference for the first time in 10 years and breaking almost every team record. Eaton was the primary coach responsible for the distance freestyle and the 200+ stroke groups. He also helped coach the sprint group, which included two qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic trials.

In 2019, Eaton volunteered as a coach with Emory University for one semester, in which the women won the DIII National Championships and the men placed second. He mainly helped with the sprint group, including swimmers with times who qualified for the DI National Championships.

Prior to coaching collegially, Eaton was the club head coach for Chattahoochee Gold in Georgia, coaching numerous state champions and junior national qualifiers, including swimmers who went on to compete for the University of Georgia, State of Arizona, State of Florida, and other DI programs.

“We are very happy to have someone with Andy’s experience and qualifications to be able to join us this year as a volunteer assistant,” said Poppell. “I have no doubt that Andy will have a positive impact on the success of our men and women.”

Eaton received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kenyon College. At Kenyon, he was team captain, 24-time DIII All-American and four-time national team DIII champion.
