Tennessee Highway Patrol accepts applications for January 2022 Trooper Cadet Class
NASHVILLE â- The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is currently accepting applications for our next cadet class, which will begin in January 2022. If you are looking for a career that gives you the opportunity to achieve your goals, then THP is your place. We are a multi-faceted, full-service, state-wide law enforcement agency with many divisions. The THP is a national leader in law enforcement and is internationally accredited by the Law Enforcement Bodies Accreditation Commission (CALEA).
During the Lateral 16 weeks and 10 weeks Academy for Tennessee POST Certified Officers, our training division will challenge you and prepare you to become a Tennessee State Soldier. In addition, the training you receive as part of our training program is transferable in the form of university credit hours.
Daily services provided by a Tennessee State Soldier include: public assistance, traffic and criminal law enforcement, traffic law enforcement, motorcycle traffic patrol, accident investigation, accident reconstruction, criminal interdiction, criminal investigation, identity crime investigation, special ops and tactical tasks, K-9 handling, diving, aviation, executive protection services, bomb squad and much more.
Men and women interested in a career as a soldier in the State of Tennessee should apply online. Nominations are now open until 11:59 p.m. CST on Tuesday, August 31. Those interested in applying must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application, be a U.S. citizen, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.

It is imperative that applicants check their email and spam folder regularly. THP expects agility testing and interview appointments to begin in late September 2021, at the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security Training Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

If hired, individuals must obtain a valid Tennessee driver’s license before the class graduates. Applicants must pass a Level II background check that includes a credit check and polygraph test. Recruits must pass a psychological and medical examination, including drug testing.
The starting salary for an officer cadet while in school is $ 3,216 per month, which increases to $ 3,619 per month after graduation. This equates to $ 43,248 per year with a statutory annual increase of 4.5% for the first 10 years. With regular salary increases, a soldier can earn $ 64,536 per year after 10 years of service under the current pay structure. The salary may also increase if you are promoted within the THP.
