Students head to class on the first day of the fall semester, Aug. 24, 2021, at Iowa Central Community College.

Through an expansion of the Career Academy, Iowa Central will open the doors to Triton Academies to better serve the county’s nine school districts with which they partner.

Triton Academies, located on the Fort Dodge campus, will allow high school students to experience college classrooms with traditional students before deciding their future. They will also give them the upper hand on the start of their college programs and degrees.

“Our goal at Iowa Central is to have students complete their degrees or certifications in the least amount of time and with the least amount of student loan debt so they can have a better life,” said Dr. Jesse Ulrich, president of Iowa Central. “We are excited to partner with our school districts in the nine counties we serve to implement ‘Triton Academies’. This will allow for greater access to career paths while students are still in high school. smoother for high school students by providing an on-campus or online college experience.

Courses available to students include areas such as automotive, cooking, social services, secondary education, and welding. Triton Academies will also offer online opportunities in a number of careers, including criminal justice, elementary education, psychology and social work.

Iowa Central has built a strong tradition within the Career Academy for nearly a decade, expanding opportunities for students that will allow them to advance before transferring or entering the workforce.

“Community colleges continue to lead the state in producing a quality workforce,” Ulrich said, “and Triton Academy will strengthen our efforts to serve this region and the state.”

Enrollment begins in Fall 2022 for Triton Academy.

High school students can contact their guidance counselor or Carrie Rock at 515-574-1096 or [email protected] with Iowa Central for more information.
